Bladder Infection Symptoms

Bladder Infection Symptoms are also called urinary tract infection symptoms or UTI symptoms although a UTI can involve the whole urinary elimination system from the urethra on up into the kidneys.

The medical term for bladder infection is cystitis.

Some common bladder infection symptoms are:

1. Frequent urge to urinate.

2. Urination can give a very painful, burning feeling

3. If the infection includes the kidneys you may have fever, nausea and/or vomiting.

4. There may be some blood in the urine

5. If infection has reached the kidneys there may be sharp pain in the back or side below the ribs.

6. Urine may be cloudy.

7. Even though there may be a frequent urge to urinate, there may only be a small amount produced.

8. Foul smelling urine

Treating a bladder infection quickly is a good idea so you don't also end up with a kidney infection.

Why Bladder Infections Are More Common in Females

Bladder infections are much more common in women than men, and many believe this is due to the close proximity of urethra, vagina and anus which allows easier migration of bacteria. Although more rare in men, bladder infection is usually also serious when it occurs.

Most bladder infections (80-90%) are caused by E.Coli bacteria (not the mutant strain that kills people) and bladder infection symptoms resulting from this common infection factor are usually easy to treat. Too much bad bacteria including E.Coli in the colon likely results in many bladder infections in females.

The bladder infections that result from other causes are much less common but also won't respond to the home remedies that work for the common type of bladder infections.

For example, there are two strains of sexually transmitted bacteria (chlamydia & mycoplasma) that can result in bladder infection.

Just below is a picture of the urinary system. Kidney System

Please note that the bright purple area with a dark oval on each side is part of the female reproductive system - not part of the urinary system.

The large dark red organs at the top are the kidneys and the lime green tubes are the ureters - the tubes that carry urine down to the bladder.

One thing we want to stress is that many people have recurring bladder infections and then, whether they use antibiotics or a home remedy method, they use the same approach to treating it each time. This is not curing the problem.

When you have recurring UTI infections, you are only treating the UTI symptoms and not the cause. When you have an infection constantly returning, your body is telling you something is wrong and if you don't address the cause it may reoccur more and more often and/or be more severe, especially if the infection reaches your kidneys.

Balancing the good/bad bacteria in your digestive system is usually the best way to cure bladder infections for good.
