Symptoms of Low ProgesteroneSymptoms of low progesterone, excess estrogen and low testosterone can all be hidden factors in mental, physical and emotional problems for men and women. Symptoms of low progesterone and low testosterone are easily corrected with supplementation. Following are some categories of questions to help you determine if you may be deficient or have an excess of certain hormones. This basic test was formulated by Dr. John Lee, who pioneered much of the present day knowledge on hormones and how they affect our lives when they are out of balance. He also accumulated much data on how to correct this balance with bioidentical hormone therapy, which means hormones that are extracted from plants and have the exact same molecular structure as human hormones, so they will not have serious side effects such as synthetic hormones used in HRT - hormone replacement therapy. SYMPTOM GROUP 1 PMS Insomnia Early miscarriage Painful and/or lumpy breasts Unexplained weight gain Cyclical headaches Anxiety Infertility Two or more symptoms indicate the following. SYMPTOM GROUP 1 Symptoms of Low Progesterone: This is the most common hormone imbalance among all ages of women. You may need to change your diet, get off synthetic hormones (including birth control pills), and you may need to use some progesterone cream, which is a very easy way to correct symptoms of low progesterone. This is all explained in detail in Dr. Lee's books, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause and What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About PREMenopause. Try saliva testing for progesterone and estradiol. SYMPTOM GROUP 2 Vaginal dryness Night sweats Painful intercourse Memory problems Bladder infections Lethargic depression Hot flashes Two or more symptoms indicate the following. SYMPTOM GROUP 2 Estrogen deficiency: This is the most common hormone imbalance in menopausal women; especially womeen that are petite and/or slim. You may need to make some special changes to your diet; take some women's herbs; and some women may even need a little bit of natural estrogen (about one-tenth the dose prescribed by most doctors). (November 1998, pages 1-3) Try saliva testing for estradiol. Very popular books written by Dr. John Lee - A pioneer in the field of hormone research and an answer to many women's prayers. SYMPTOM GROUP 3 Puffiness and bloating Cervical dysplasia (abnormal pap smear) Rapid weight gain Breast tenderness Mood swings Heavy bleeding Anxious depression Migraine headaches Insomnia Foggy thinking Red flush on face Gallbladder problems Weepiness Two or more symptoms indicate the following. SYMPTOM GROUP 3 Excess estrogen: In women, this is usually solved by getting off of the synthetic hormones often prescribed by doctors for menopausal women. Once you're on a natural hormone regimen, you may want to get a comprehensive saliva test, Hormone Profile III. SYMPTOM GROUP 4 If you have two or more symptoms from combining the symptoms in #1 and #3 this will apply to SYMPTOM GROUP 4 SYMPTOM GROUP 4 Estrogen dominance: This is caused when you don't have enough progesterone to balance the effects of estrogen. Thus, you can have low estrogen but if you have even lower progesterone, you can have symptoms of estrogen dominance. Many women between the ages of 40 and 50 suffer from estrogen dominance. This topic is covered in much detail in Dr. Lee's timeless book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Menopause and try saliva testing for Hormone Profile I or just test for progesterone and estradiol. SYMPTOM GROUP 5 Acne Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) Excessive hair on the face and arms Hypoglycemia and/or unstable blood sugar Thinning hair on the head Infertility Ovarian cysts Mid-cycle pain Two or more symptoms indicate the following. SYMPTOM GROUP 5 Excess androgens (male hormones): This is most often caused by too much sugar and simple carbohydrates in the diet and is often found in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). You can find out more about PCOS in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About PREmenopause and try saliva hormone testing for progesterone, estradiol and testosterone. SYMPTOM GROUP 6 Debilitating fatigue Unstable blood sugar Foggy thinking Low blood pressure Thin and/or dry skin Intolerance to exercise Brown spots on face Two or more symptoms indicate the following. SYMPTOM GROUP 6 Cortisol deficiency: This is caused by tired adrenals, which is usually caused by chronic stress. If you're trying to juggle a job and a family, chances are good you have tired adrenals. There's are great chapters on restoring your adrenal function in both Dr' Lee's books - the Menopause and the PREmenopause books Also try a hormone saliva test for the Adrenal Function or one of the individual Cortisol tests. One more note: Many find that correcting symptoms of low progesterone and/or testosterone is a natural aphrodisiac for women because it brings back a feeling of youthfulness and vigor. It seems that when puberty approaches for some girls that perhaps hormones are slightly out of balance, resulting in slowed breast development and balancing the hormones increases bust size, although this does not happen to everyone with small breasts.
